The UK government have pledged to get 30% of cars off UK roads, and they're doing it by targeting the working class.
UK drivers already faced with LTNs, speed restrictions, and mass surveillance, are about to face even more hardship from this car-hating Labour government. Massive tax hikes are coming, designed specifically to price the working-class off UK roads.
In a total change to everything that we've been told before first comes in the form of a new tax on electric vehicles. Previously, fully electric vehicles were exempt from road tax due to their zero-emissions status. but now, in a 180 degree u-turn, the government are treating electric cars exactly the same as every other car and taxing them in the same way.
Electric Vehicles
Electric Vehicle owners will have to pay £195 road tax every 12 months after the first year of ownership, the same as the average 2ltr petrol engined car. The government have been less than forthcoming about the change, with many EV owners feeling they've been duped into buying the cars with the promise of being tax free.
Hybrid cars
Hybrid owners should also brace themselves for fundamental changes to their tax; First-year tax rates for vehicles emitting between 1-50g/km of CO2 are one of the steepest changes. Charges for these vehicles will dramatically rise from £10 to £110 (1000% increase), with plug-in hybrid models affected the most. Hybrids emitting between 51-75g/km of CO2 will also see major hikes, with charges up from £20 to £135.
Petrol and Diesel cars. All internal combustion engined cars are going to be taxed more, with many owners set to see yearly road tax of £735.
Petrol and Diesel cars
Cars registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017 face the highest punitive measures, attacking the least well-off the most. Those that drive an older car are more likely to do so because of the prohibitive cost of buying an equivalent new one. According to the government's own statistics these are overwhelmingly working class people, and it is this group that the government reserve a special kind of hatred, with all of their tax changes aimed directly at this group.
The government state:
Cars registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017
The rate of vehicle tax is based on fuel type and CO2 emissions. CO2 emission details are shown on the car’s V5C registration certificate, or you can find emission details online.

New Cars
But the biggest punitive tax so far is on new vehicles. All new vehicles costing more than £40,000 will be subject to an eye-watering tax in the first yea paid directly to the government. The surest sign yet that the Labour government are Marxist, anti-aspirational and base their entire policies on jealousy.
New cars producing between 226 to 255g/km of CO2 will also face heavy rises, with rates up from £2,340 to £4.680 per year. New cars emitting over 255g/km of CO2 are set to pay £5,490. This is double what they did last year.
