BBC now call Islamic State fighters in Syria 'rebels' to hide the truth of what they really are.
The British government has been accused of funding Islamic State fighters in Syria, labelled as "rebels," with a staggering £50 million, sparking outrage and fears for Western security.
The heart of the controversy lies in revelations about funding streams supporting so-called "moderate rebels" in Syria, who are, in reality, indistinguishable from Islamic State.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy defended the aid as "part of Britain’s commitment to fostering democracy and peace in the region," despite evidence to the contrary.
David Lammy has announced that they will be giving £50 million to the new regime in the first instance, suggesting that much more will follow. However, critics have said that this is tantamount to funding terrorists. "This is not aid, it’s state-sponsored terror. Why are taxpayers funding groups that threaten the very fabric of our society?" Said one critic. Similarly, commentator Peter Hitchens wrote,
“This is a scandal of immense proportions. These are not freedom fighters but hardened terrorists.”
According to figures we have obtained the funding of Islamist terror groups in Syria is nothing new: £20 million was funnelled in 2021 alone to groups operating in Idlib province—a known stronghold of jihadist factions.
The UK’s CSSF report from April 2024 revealed 'ongoing funding', stating that money aimed to “strengthen local governance and counterbalance authoritarian forces.” However, analysts from the Centre for Strategic Studies (published in July 2024) revealed that over 40% of groups receiving aid have direct or indirect connections to known terrorist organisations. They are, in reality, factions of the Islamic state.
The revelation has left many questioning the moral and strategic priorities of the British government. The portrayal of these fighters as "rebels" by sections of the media fuels public confusion and complicates accountability. Critics argue this could have devastating consequences, not just for the region, but for global security.
The British government’s decision to fund these groups has deepened the rift between them and ordinary citizens. Funding Islamic State is far more dangerous for the west than the Assad’s regime. The British government is actively sending money to our enemies. That money won't be used for 'democracy in the region' as Lammy claims, Islamic State are anti-democracy. Islam and Democracy do not exist together anywhere in the world. Syria is now an Islamic Caliphate and will use that money to do two things: 1) oppress the Syrian people, and 2) Train another wave of terrorists to attack the West.
